Clinic Demo Night with Irene Schweckendieck

Dressage Winnipeg is once again sponsoring a demonstation night with international judge, coach and rider from Germany, Irene Schweckendieck ! The Demo Night will be hosted by Pine Ridge Equine Park. Sign up now to reserve your spot! If you are interested in auditing the riding clinics coached by Irene on October 11 through 16 during the day, please contact Alison Elliott (info below). Cost is $10 per day to audit whether or not you are a Dressage Winnipeg member.

Date: Wednesday, October 15, 2008
Time: 7:00 - 9:30 p.m.
Location: Pine Ridge Equine Park
Cost: No charge for Dressage Winnipeg members
$15.00 for non-DW members

Coffee and cookies to follow and a chance to talk with Irene.

Format: The demo will be more instructive than past demo nights - Irene will watch the horse/rider perform, tell the audience what she sees, then tell how to improve the horse/rider, work with the horse/rider and then explain to the audience the exercises and improvements that were accomplished. The clinic will be oriented toward higher level movements with two riders schooling 2nd Level, 2 schooling at 3rd Level, and two at 4th Level and above. There will also be a focus on the problems that all judges have seen in the shows; i.e., engagement, throughness and suppling.

We hope to cover introduction and improvement of the following movements in the clinic: shoulder-in, travers, renvers, half pass, flying changes and other movements depending on the horse/rider combinations. Irene will also comment whether she feels the horses/riders have had sufficient grounding in the basics to move up to the higher levels. We will have six riders. If you have suggestions for movements that you would like we should include in the demo, please send these to me asap. Thank-you!

Spirit of Dressage Nominations 2008

It is again that time of the year when the show season is complete and the Annual General Meeting draws near. One important feature of the AGM is the awarding of the annual Spirit of Dressage Award. The Board of Dressage Winnipeg asks its members to give this some serious thought and submit a nomination for this important award. Let’s recognize and honour the person who has made the most significant contribution to Dressage Winnipeg in 2008.

Download and print the Nomination Form.

Deadline for submission: Oct 7th, 2008

Good luck to the Regionals Team 2008!

Thanks to the sponsorship of CIBC Wood Gundy, we are able to assist a team of 9 horses & riders who have qualified and applied for assistance to travel to Red Deer, Alberta for the National Championships (Western Region) and represent Manitoba! The team has a lovely set of jackets and will be travelling together as a group, leaving this week for the Championships. We are looking forward to hearing how they did after the competition Sept 13/14th. The team includes Kayla Kuebler, Eileen Blais, Stephanie Ruud, Sarah Biron, Cassandra Sinnock, Rachel Kilgour, Christy Lee, Samantha Audet and Heather Thomas.

Elite Mare Rosalind

Congratulations goes out to the local Hanoverian mare ROSALIND by Rotspon out of Ramira for earning the highly prestigious title of Elite Mare (EM) from the Hanoverian Verband. This is the highest ranking a Hanoverian mare can receive and it means she is considered among the very best quality representatives of her breed in the entire world.

EM Rosalind travelled to the Masters Tournament at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Alberta in September 2008 to be critically evaluated under saddle, through the jumping chute and in hand by globally renowned experts flown in from the Hanoverian Verband in Germany.

EM Rosalind was ridden by Dressage Winnipeg member and Equine Canada dressage judge Dr Brandy Catton and was bred by Helen Page of Eildon Croft Hanoverians in Headingley, Manitoba. This was the second time Helen has produced an Elite Mare out of her broodmare Ramira, the first being EM Windsor by Warkanson.

Saddle Fit Clinic

If your horses are like mine, more consistent work over the summer plus access to lush grass may have caused them to change shape somewhat. Fortunately, Danny Kroetch will be in the Winnipeg area the weekend of
October 4/5 to make sure all our saddles fit our horses going into the fall and winter.

Letting people sign up on-line has been working well, so if you've come to a Danny clinic before, you know what to do, and I'll look forward to getting your application via email. If you're new to DK or have any questions, send me an email (jrodger@xplornet.com) or give me a call (467-8920) and I will clarify things for you. I will let you know, likely within 24 hours, when I have received your application, so if you haven't heard from me, you might want to get in touch with me to make sure I did receive it.

Looking forward to seeing you--in barely over a month! Johanna Rodger

Please consider sponsoring Dressage Winnipeg or getting your workplace or equine-related businesses you deal with to sponsor the club! We rely upon donations from sponsors to improve our show prizes and for support of the activities of Dressage Winnipeg throughout the year. As an added incentive and to acknowledge sponsors for their contributions, some advertising is provided free of charge so this can be an opportunity for equine-related businesses to support their local sports association and get some advertising to a special target audience as well! Forms are available for download from this website and can be filled in. If you have any questions about how sponsorship works, you can email Andrea Kilgour at AKilgour@exchange.hsc.mb.ca
