In 1974, Manitoba Horse Council (MHC) was founded. Since then, its board and staff have represented clubs and individual members involved in equine activity in Manitoba. MHC provides support, leadership and resources to develop and improve equestrian sports in our province.
In 1975, fifteen riders met to establish the first provincial dressage club. The Manitoba Dressage Association (MDA) included members from Winnipeg, Brandon and other areas of province. By-laws were drawn and the board committed itself to furthering the sport through the organization of shows and clinics at various stables in Manitoba.
In 1985, Brandon decided to break away and form its own branch of the MDA, naming it Westman Dressage. In 1987, Dressage Winnipeg (DW) was established to serve riders in the capital region. From 1987-2025, these clubs served different areas of Manitoba and worked independently of MDA, which ceased to exist.
In 2025, Manitoba Dressage Club (MDC) incorporated with a mission to work within the purview of MHC, Sport Manitoba, Equestrian Canada (EC) and Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) to grow the sport of dressage in our province. It is committed to working alongside Westman Dressage, First Steps Dressage, Kick Cancer Dressage, Manitoba Horse Trials, Western Style Dressage Association (WSDAC), and all organizations who share MDC's vision.
MDC is also committed to honouring the accomplishments of the volunteers and athletes who were members of DW. We appreciate your patience as we research and make these available for posterity. If you have any documents you would like to submit, please feel free to do so!
