Each month, Dressage Winnipeg will highlight one of our members.
Eileen Blais Eileen Blais, a high school math teacher, brings her passion for learning and growth into the riding arena. Eileen has developed an exceptional partnership with her 10-year-old OTTB, Schteve, whose floppy ears and friendly, puppy-like nature make him a delight to ride. Eileen’s equestrian journey began in her teenage years with eventing, where she embraced the variety and challenges each discipline offers. Though cross-country remains her favorite, she has recently focused on sharpening her dressage skills with Schteve. Dressage has provided them the opportunity to enhance their communication and deepen their bond in a setting that requires both concentration and harmony. This year, Eileen attempted Second Level for the first time, marking an exciting step forward in her dressage journey. In addition to dressage, Eileen and Schteve enjoy their time in the show jumping ring. This fall, they competed in the 0.85m Junior/Amateur division at a recent MHJA show and were thrilled to come away as high-point champions. Outside of competition, Eileen values their time on the trails, where Schteve’s calm disposition makes him an ideal partner. Long trail rides and the thrill of galloping through open fields add a unique layer of excitement. Looking forward to next year, Eileen is eager to continue exploring new challenges with Schteve, including more cross-country schooling and upcoming dressage shows. With Schteve’s blend of athleticism, heart, and playfulness, Eileen couldn’t ask for a better mount. Her dedication to growth and the bond she shares with Schteve promise a season full of memorable moments.
