Rider Spotlight - January 2024
Each month, Dressage Winnipeg will highlight one of our members.
Isla Thomas
Isla Thomas is a 13 year old junior from Winnipeg, MB. Isla started riding when she was 8 years old, but she has loved horses her entire life. Isla mainly rides out of Deerfield Farm in Headingley coached by her Gma, Heather Thomas, but also rides at West Wind Stables with her coach, Christie Branton.
Isla started riding Storm Front, also known as Sully, in 2021. They started showing in 2022 at Training Level. In 2023 they moved onto First Level and had a successful season taking away a new personal best and lots to work on over the winter. Out of both seasons Isla gratefully received the Captain de Kenyeres rider scholarship for the 13 and under category. Currently, they are preparing to show Second Level during the 2024 season.
Isla hopes to keep training and competing in dressage up through the levels into the FEI tests and eventually qualify for the North American Youth Championships. Isla has also finished up to Level 3 in the Equestrian Canada levels and would like to complete all of them to become a certified coach, so that she can share her passion and love for horses and riding with others.
